this week I am to create a screener to find novice online purchase users. This extends mainly to how users order food online, specifically pizza. I thought this would be a simple task of what to ask to find users I would like to gather data from but it is more difficult than it sounds. Even though the criteria I was provided pushed me in a helpful direction (ie the pizza company wants to know how novice users feel about creating accounts for instance) I still had to rack my brain for a little bit.
Why is this so difficult for me? I think it is because I over-think just about every situation in my life and try to close any gaps. I do not necessarily think this is a bad thing but trying to phrase screener questions in a specific way that will give me the results I am looking for proved to have many gaps. Such as asking “You are most likely to place an online purchase on…” and I provided a checklist of devices. Do novice users even use devices? For instance, I have a friend who has never ordered food online but she owns a smartphone and a laptop.
With these questions on top of task creation for screened users to complete (for testing purposes) I hope I am headed in an somewhat right direction.
